Having represented the?West Indies under-19s?at the?2008 Under-19 World Cup, Powell made his?first-class?debut for the?Leeward Islands?in March 2008. He was selected to make his?One Day International?(ODI) debut for the West Indies in 2009, against?Bangladesh, and made his?Test?debut just under two years later, against?India. Powell scored his first Test?century?in July 2012, against?New Zealand, and later in the year made?centuries in both innings?of a Test against Bangladesh, becoming one of the youngest and only the 9th player in West Indian cricketing history to do so.
